Washington, D.C.

In the Washington, D.C. office, internships run throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters The hours may be flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Need-based stipends are available in the Washington, DC office. 

In Washington, D.C., interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Internship Deadlines are as follows:

  • Summer 2024 – mid-May to August (Deadline March 15)
  • Fall 2024 – September to December (Deadline July 2)
  • Spring 2025 – January to mid-May (Deadline November 12)

District Offices

The Congressman’s Congressional offices in Long Branch and New Brunswick offer internships to eligible college students and individuals transitioning to a graduate program, and occasionally, high school students.  Our offices are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays.  Interns are expected to work between 8 and 20 hours per week.

District staff work as liaisons between the Congressman's constituency and federal agencies to resolve issues that constituents are experiencing.  District Office interns’ main responsibility is to support the District Office staff on a daily basis. Please be aware that District staff and interns do not handle legislation or policy issues.

Our District Office internship schedule and deadlines are as follows:

  • Summer 2024 –  mid-May to August (Deadline April 12)
  • Fall 2024 – September to December (Deadline August 2)
  • Spring 2025 – January to mid-May (Deadline December 6)
